Symptoms Of Traumatic Brain Injury
When a person gets traumatic brain injury, he or she will experience some of several symptoms, depending on how the brain was injured. Usually in most cases, the victim will experience a loss of consciousness for a few moments. In more severe cases of traumatic brain injury, a person may not wake up from loss of consciousness at all. Symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, ringing in the ears, blurred vision, and trouble with memory and thinking are all associated with a brain injury. The exact nature of the symptoms depend heavily on how the brain injury was obtained and where the damage in the brain is located. Some, and very rarely all, brain functions, from memory and thought processes to basic bodily functions controlled by the brain, may be affected by a person who has experienced a brain injury. The severity of the injury determines how much of a person's brain functions are affected. If the brain was only mildly injured, then a person may be temporarily disoriented. A severe traumatic brain injury, on the other hand, may cause irreparable damage to basic brain functions, such as those that control memory or thought processes. The symptoms of a brain injury vary widely. For instance, a very mild injury may cause mild to moderate headaches, and possibly momentary dizziness or disorientation. More moderate injuries to the brain may cause headaches that are more severe, loss of consciousness, blurred vision, and/or ringing in the ears. The symptoms of a severe traumatic brain injury are usually more easily recognizable than mild to moderate brain injury, especially if the person lapses into a coma, which is a state of complete non-responsiveness. By recognizing the early symptoms of traumatic brain injury, a person can get medical help for the person with the injury. This is extremely important if the person has lapsed into a coma. A comatose patient is one who may very well not wake up again. Severe traumatic brain injuries are considered medical priorities, as they are extremely hard to treat, and the damage to the brain is usually irreparable. There are many symptoms associated with brain injury, all depending on the severity of the injury itself. Slight disorientation and moderate, but tolerable, headaches are usually signs of a mild brain injury. More severe injuries may have symptoms ranging from slurred speech, dizziness, and/or severe headaches that will not stop to a loss a consciousness. If a person is ever experiencing these symptoms, he or she should seek medical attention immediately.
